At 11 Oscar nominations and five wins, Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of Brian Selznick’s The Invention of Hugo Cabret didn’t just win over the Academy, it won several hearts wherever the film was screened. Hugo, Scorsese’s first 3D film (also his most visually appealing one) had reviewers calling it the 3D experience of the decade. While that may be debatable, what isn’t is that the film released during Thanksgiving (November) in the US last year, and the demand for it to play in Indian theatres hasn’t diminished as yet.
Online campaigns on social networks pushed for the film’s release. As it turns out, Viacom 18’s strategy of pegging Hugo as a summer release seemsto have paid off. Distributors and exhibitors anticipate great audience response to the film.
Vikram Malhotra, CEO, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, says, “In 2011, we delighted fans with top notch entertainers like Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon, Puss in Boots, Captain America and finally Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. We are proud to kick off 2012 with the much-loved Hugo. The anticipation amongst fans is unprecedented.”
The film releases across Indian screens on May 4.
